CURRENT CONDITIONS ARCHIVE

Issues from the 2006-2007 academic year...

  • September, 2006 (1.5Mb)
    • Condition of the Month: Belonging
    • The Quaglia Institute for Student Aspirations welcomes you back to another exciting school year! No time is more conducive to fostering Belonging and building relationships than the beginning of school. • October, 2006 (800Kb)
    • Condition of the Month:Spirit of Adventure
    • The second month of school can be prime teaching time. You have learned your students’ names and are starting to get into an easy rhythm with them. The key is not to get too comfortable. This issue is submitted by Erin Bakkom, a teacher at Portmouth Middle School in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, who talks about "Singing in a Risk Taking Key"

  • November, 2006 (4.3Mb)
    • Condition of the Month: Heroes
    • Is society running short on heroes? Allegations of drug use by athletes, celebrities that fill tabloids with relationship problems, and political leaders too busy trying to trump one another to get anything done, expose the clay feet of many some might look up to. Yet when you take a closer look, you see that genuine Heroes abound.

  • December, 2006 (2Mb)
    • Condition of the Month: Fun & Excitement
    • The approaching holidays present both a challenge and an opportunity. Staying focused when the prospect of presents and family celebrations is just around the corner can be difficult. And yet this time in the school year provides us with a wonderful occasion to be and act young again.

  • January, 2007 (873Kb)
    • Condition of the Month: Confidence to Take Action
    • Rarely does one find a school that lives, breathes, and emulates a sense of purpose on all fronts. The Quaglia Institute for Student Aspirations has found such a place that can and should be used as a model for all schools: the Philipsburg School District. This issue is submitted by QISA Founder and President, Dr. Russell J. Quaglia.

  • February, 2007 (1.47Mb)
    • Condition of the Month: Leadership & Responsibility
    • Each year QISA affiliates conduct a number of student leadership conferences in both the U.S. and the UK. The National Catholic Center for Student Aspirations (NCCSA) at Assumption College bases its work on the 8 Conditions developed by Dr. Russell J. Quaglia. The NCCSA hosts an annual leadership conference for students from 24 Catholic schools to improve their abilities as leaders. Twenty-one Assumption College student volunteers, trained in the 8 Conditions, make this exciting day possible. Inside is a reflection on the leadership conference by one of the dedicated AC volunteers.

  • March, 2007 (520Kb)
    • Condition of the Month: Curiosity & Creativity
    • Each year QISA affiliates conduct a number of student leadership conferences in both the U.S. and the UK. The National We return to our sites in England for another look at how Aspirations work is put into practice in schools "across the pond." We value our colleagues in England and all the ways they make a difference for kids.

  • April, 2007 (699Kb)
    • Condition of the Month: Curiosity & Creativity
    • This month we focus on the Creativity side. In an effort to "practice what we teach," we want to encourage you to be even more creative in the days and weeks ahead than you already are. Use the template in this document to spark your imagination to new pedagogical heights. If you are an administrator or in some other non-classroom role, adapt the template to a staff meeting, student interaction, or other work situation.

  • May, 2007 (5.8Mb)
    • Condition of the Month: Heroes
    • Which high school are you planning to attend? Who are the heroes in your life? What type of job interests you? What do you need to do to get into college? What accomplishments are you most proud of? These questions and more are the focus of North Middle School´s new monthly Aspiration Period.

  • June, 2007 (5Mb)
    • Condition of the Month: Sense Of Accomplishment
    • Term after term, year after year our students fit more or less neatly under the classic bell curve. Each year society expects more A students than C students and every year the law of averages reasserts itself. As you reflect on the past school year, be sure to recognize and celebrate those who got "an A for effort."
