3-7-07 Grade 6 - 8 Report (PDF - 697Kb)
The My Voice© Student Aspirations Survey assesses student aspirations by asking students to respond to 57 statements about the 8 Conditions, as well as demographic questions. The statements probe the conditions that affect students´ aspirations and, ultimately, their personal, social, physical, and academic development. Students respond to the 8 Conditions statements on a 5-point Likert scale ranging from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree." The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. By asking students how they perceive their school environment, My Voice© provides educators with a powerful tool for understanding both what motivates and inspires students to achieve, and how well students believe their school is meeting those objectives. My Voice© is a critical motivator for initiating innovative, meaningful school reform. Read More... (PDF - 697Kb)

WHAT IS FOLLOW THE CHILD?

An initiative offered to New Hampshire schools and districts, FOLLOW THE CHILD helps schools foster student aspirations to promote student success through an emphasis on personalized learning and assessment. With a focus on measuring student growth through all areas of each child's life, FOLLOW THE CHILD puts New Hampshire's children at the front and center of its education system.

The FOLLOW THE CHILD initiative captures and expands upon the spirit of No Child Left Behind and the urgency to move each child to academic proficiency and beyond. This initiative prompts personalized learning that plots a track toward proficiency and defines the necessary support systems for each child.

HOW CAN YOU BECOME A FOLLOW THE CHILD DISTRICT?

Participation in FOLLOW THE CHILD means school-wide readiness. Before schools can join FOLLOW THE CHILD they must reflect on and assess their commitment to the following:

  • Personalized education for each child
  • Documentation of individual student progress
  • Continuous assessment strategies
  • Knowing each student as a person
  • Taking responsibility for student learning
  • Building relationships and partnerships inside and outside of school
  • Promotion of health, fitness and nutrition
  • Believing that adults can learn from students
  • Helping each student reach his/her fullest potential
  • raising student aspirations

School administrative units (SAU's) requesting to become a FOLLOW THE CHILD designated district, should send a letter to Commissioner Tracy that expresses the SAU's commitment to these beliefs. In addition, the letter should explain how the district supports, measures, and documents the personal, social, physical and academic growth of each child within the district. Join New Hampshire in ushering in a new era in public education.

A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

A key goal of FOLLOW THE CHILD is to improve the personal, social, physical and academic well being of each New Hampshire child. In doing so, student aspirations will rise and pupils will be more likely to reach their goals and dreams. To help schools with this challenge, Commissioner Tracy and the New Hampshire Department of Education have partnered with the Quaglia Institute for Student Aspirations (QISA). The Institute's groundbreaking work has identified 8 Conditions that Make a Difference™ in increasing student aspirations and their ability to reach their fullest potential.
